Falling Waters TourThe Art of Photographing Waterfalls in the Green &White MountainsDates: June 4-6, 2008
Cost: $495.00 per person Booking Deadline: March 4, 2008 Abstract: There are over 100 waterfalls in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Many are right off the road, others require a bit of a hike through lush forests, along enchanting upland streams and rivers. Each one is unique with a personality all its own and virtually all offer opportunities to make stunning, gallery-quality images. We’ll photograph select waterfalls in the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire just as spring wildflowers decorate the forest and the rivers and streams are brimming with spring runoff. The torrential sound of falling water is as ubiquitous this time of year as the rustle of leaves and the honking of geese in autumn. Join me and I will help you capture the essence of falling water on film. Take home a piece of the Northern Forest. Enlarge your best effort and hang it on your wall. Then, sit back and listen; in a moment, the roar of the cataract will take you back to the forest. In the field and over meals, we will discuss technique, equipment, lighting, filters, composition, special effects (long exposure effects, etc.), film, tripods, and how to photograph in the rain. This workshop is also suitable for anyone interested in honing his or her general photography skills. I will accommodate no more than eight participants in order to assure a maximum of attention to each individual’s personal needs and interests. To be sure, I will be shooting for myself as well so this experience amounts to spending time in the field with a professional nature photographer and learning, first hand, how to take high quality, gallery and editorial photographs. In the evening, after we’ve run out of light, we’ll take some time to examine our efforts on our laptops and I’ll demonstrate basic digital workflow techniques.
